Auctions take place by candle. This involves small lighted wicks that burn out in 15 to 30 seconds. If 2 successive candles go out without a new bid being placed while they are burning, the property is awarded to the last bidder. If no bids are placed after three candles have gone out, the property is declared not to have been sold.
